📍 Italy
Ponte Nuovo crosses the Tronto at the edge of Ascoli Piceno’s historic center, offering a view of the close relationship between the city and its river landscape. The old town lies between the Tronto and Castellano, with tightly grouped buildings and terracotta roofs rising above rocky banks. Pale travertine, the stone that characterizes much of Ascoli’s historic architecture, contrasts with the darker river corridor below. Seen from the bridge, the layered roofs, stone façades, exposed rock, and water reveal a different side of the city from the formal spaces of its celebrated piazzas.
