Plaza de Francia occupies the southeastern edge of Casco Antiguo, where Panama City’s colonial quarter meets the Bay of Panama. Its monument, marked by an obelisk crowned with a Gallic rooster, commemorates the French canal effort and those involved in the project. Beside it, Las Bóvedas preserves vaulted structures incorporated into the old defensive seawall. From the elevated terrace, the view layers weathered masonry, palms and the historic waterfront against the high-rise skyline of modern Panama City. The Pacific’s pronounced tides continually alter the foreground, shifting between open water, reflections and broad exposed flats.
