📍 Spain
Pico de las Nieves rises in Gran Canaria’s central highlands, within the municipality of Vega de San Mateo, and offers a broad outlook across the island’s rugged volcanic interior. From the roadside viewpoint near the summit, the landscape opens toward the Tejeda basin, with Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga standing above pine-covered slopes and deeply cut ravines. On clear days, Tenerife’s Mount Teide appears beyond the Atlantic, while trade-wind clouds can settle below the ridge as a shifting white layer. The contrast between dark volcanic formations, green Canary Island pines and distant blue silhouettes gives the view its distinctive depth, especially when low light emphasizes the relief. Part of the summit area is occupied by communications and military installations, so visitors use the designated public viewpoint rather than the highest ground.
