Piazza Nenni is a small public square on the sloping edge of Montepulciano’s medieval core that functions as one of the town’s main lookout points over the surrounding countryside. Its visual interest comes from the dramatic contrast between the dense cluster of ochre and terracotta rooftops behind you and the open patchwork of cultivated fields, vineyards and cypress-dotted ridgelines that fan out below. Photographically the scene is defined by layered horizontals — rooflines, terraces, rows of vines and distant hills — and by seasonal shifts in color and texture: fresh greens in spring, warm golds in late summer and fiery tones in autumn. The square’s vantage makes it easy to compose wide panoramas and study the scale relationship between the compact hilltown and the expansive Val d’Orcia/Val di Chiana landscape.
