📍 Italy
Passo Sella is a high mountain pass on the boundary between South Tyrol and Trentino, linking Val Gardena and Val di Fassa, two of the Dolomites’ Ladin-speaking valleys. The view is defined by contrasting mountain forms: the jagged Sassolungo (Langkofel) group rises to the west, while the Sella massif presents broad, tiered walls of pale rock to the east. Grassy slopes beneath the cliffs make their sheer scale especially clear, while snow lingering in gullies traces the folds and fractures of the rock. Below Sassolungo, the Città dei Sassi, or “City of Stones,” is a field of large fallen boulders that brings the mountain landscape down to a more intimate scale, with rough textures and irregular shapes beneath the towering skyline.
