Nelson Head Heritage Lighthouse and Reserve occupies an elevated headland above Little Beach, on the eastern side of Nelson Bay in Port Stephens. The historic lighthouse keeper’s cottage and low white light structure recall the site’s role in guiding vessels through the harbour entrance. From the reserve, the view stretches across Shoal Bay and the blue waterways of Port Stephens to Tomaree Head and Yacaaba Head, the paired landmarks framing the passage to the Tasman Sea. Boats, sheltered coves and layered headlands give the scene its distinctive scale, while the white heritage buildings provide a strong foreground against the water.
