Views from Monte Epomeo unfold from the highest point of Ischia, the volcanic island in the Gulf of Naples. Rising to 789 metres, the summit reveals the island’s deeply folded terrain, coastal settlements and surrounding blue water, with Procida, Capri and the Campanian mainland visible in clear conditions. Green tuff rock gives the upper slopes their distinctive pale, weathered texture, while the small Church of San Nicola and its rock-cut hermitage add a human scale to the exposed ridge. The approach is on foot, commonly from the village of Fontana, and the rocky final section opens onto broad, layered compositions of cliffs, sea and distant coastline.
