Views from McHugh Bluff
📍 Canada
McHugh Bluff is a long, elevated parkland escarpment on the north side of Calgary’s Bow River valley, separating Crescent Heights above from Sunnyside below. Its south-facing overlooks frame the downtown skyline across the river, with Prince’s Island, bridges, treetops, rail lines and clustered glass towers creating distinct layers of urban scale. Rather than a single lookout, the bluff offers changing compositions along its pathways: open grass provides a clean foreground, while mature trees create seasonal frames and reveal more of the city after autumn leaf fall. The contrast between the natural slope and Calgary’s dense commercial core is the view’s defining feature, especially when low light catches the reflective façades or the skyline illuminates after dusk.
