📍 Italy
The coastal viewpoints above Manarola’s small harbor look back toward one of the Cinque Terre’s most recognizable scenes: tall, pastel-colored houses clustered on a rocky spur above the Ligurian Sea. This village on Liguria’s eastern coast is shaped by both fishing and wine-growing, with steep vineyard terraces climbing the hills behind the waterfront. The buildings follow the uneven terrain rather than a regular street grid, creating a layered skyline of ochre, pink, and pale yellow façades. Below them, rugged rock faces and the harbor’s concrete landing areas reveal how closely village life is fitted to the coast. Looking across the inlet gives photographs a clear sense of that relationship, with the sea separating the viewpoint from the densely built headland.
