📍 Canada
Maligne Canyon is a narrow limestone gorge carved by the Maligne River northeast of Jasper, within Jasper National Park. Its walls plunge more than 50 metres in places, framing waterfalls, swirling pools and a river that repeatedly disappears behind tight bends. Erosion has sculpted the pale rock into layered ledges, rounded hollows and overhangs, giving views from the rim a striking contrast between illuminated stone and the dark channel below. Springs feed the gorge with water that travels underground from Medicine Lake, connecting this visible landscape to the Maligne Valley’s extensive limestone drainage system.
