📍 Italy
Kronplatz, or Plan de Corones, rises to 2,275 metres above Bruneck in South Tyrol’s Puster Valley. Its broad, largely treeless summit offers an unusually open panorama: the pale, jagged Dolomites dominate the southern horizon, while the main Alpine ridge and Zillertal Alps extend to the north. Ski pistes and mountain pastures create sweeping foreground lines, contrasted by the angular forms of Zaha Hadid’s MMM Corones museum, partly embedded in the summit. The plateau is reached by hiking routes and seasonally operated cable cars; clear air after a weather change gives the strongest separation between successive layers of peaks.
