Views from The Kahala Hotel & Resort open onto the Pacific from Honolulu’s residential Kahala district, east of Diamond Head. Opened in 1964, the oceanfront resort sits apart from Waikiki’s dense hotel strip, with a sandy beachfront and the neighboring Waiʻalae Country Club defining its coastal setting. Palms and landscaped lawns frame the shore, while shallow reef waters create bands of turquoise against the deeper blue offshore. The recognizable scene is less an urban skyline than a low, open horizon: pale sand, textured reef shallows, and tropical greenery reveal a different face of Honolulu’s south coast.
