Hexentanzplatz, meaning “Witches’ Dance Floor,” is a high plateau above Thale in Saxony-Anhalt’s Harz Mountains. Its overlooks reveal the wooded slopes and dark rock walls of the Bode Gorge, with the Bode River far below and the craggy Rosstrappe rising across the valley. Broader views extend over Thale and the flatter Harz foreland, emphasizing the abrupt transition from mountain terrain to open country. The site is closely associated with Harz witch folklore and Walpurgis Night traditions, a theme reflected throughout the plateau. For photographs, the most distinctive elements are the layered ridges, the scale of the gorge, and the contrast between exposed stone and dense forest, especially when low cloud or autumn color adds depth to the valley.
