Scala dei Turchi is the striking white cliff formation on the southern Sicilian coast near Realmonte, a coastal landmark where soft, layered marl has been sculpted into broad, terrace-like steps that drop to the Mediterranean. Visually arresting because of its pure, chalky whiteness against deep blue water and ochre sand, the formation reads like sweeping, horizontal bands carved by wave and wind, with smooth, curving ledges and vertical striations that catch light. Photographically, the stepped terraces create strong horizontal lines and repetitive shapes; wet surfaces reflect sky and deepen contrast, while low-angle light sculpts the ridges into pronounced shadows—small figures on the steps give scale. The cliff is part of the shoreline and best seen from the beach or low viewpoints along the coast; its soft rock is visibly eroded and fragile.
