📍 Russia
From Talnakh, a northern district of Norilsk, the Putorana Plateau forms a vast, stepped horizon beyond the urban and mining landscape. This remote Siberian highland was shaped by immense layers of volcanic basalt, later cut by glaciers and rivers into flat-topped mountains, deep valleys, lakes, and numerous waterfalls. From the city’s edge, its dark escarpments and lingering snowfields create a striking contrast with tundra, apartment blocks, and industrial structures. The scene changes dramatically with the Arctic seasons: low sunlight emphasizes the plateau’s horizontal strata, while winter snow simplifies the terrain into broad monochrome forms and summer brings long hours of illumination.
