📍 Ukraine
Andriivskyi Descent winds down Kyiv’s steep hills from the historic upper city to Podil, the old commercial quarter near the Dnipro. Views here reveal the city’s distinctive topography: low-rise rooftops below, wooded slopes between neighborhoods, and St Andrew’s Church rising above the street with green domes, white columns and gilded Baroque ornament. The church is an eighteenth-century work by Bartolomeo Rastrelli and remains the descent’s most recognizable landmark. Long associated with artists, galleries and craft sellers, the street is also a cultural link between the two districts. Its cobblestones, closely spaced façades and winding course create intimate street scenes that contrast with the broader outlooks over Podil from the upper slopes.
