๐ From Courtyard, India
The Victoria Memorial Hall is a grand white marble edifice located on the Maidan, the green open space in the middle of Kolkata. A majestic building, it stands as a tribute to Queen Victoria, the queen of Great Britain and India, who reigned from 1837 until her death in 1901. Built from 1906 to 1921, Victoria Memorial Hall was designed by the architect Sir William Emerson in the Indo-Saracenic style. Inside, it is home to a massive collection of artefacts, memorabilia, photographs and other ephemera related to the life of the late queen. There are also a number of paintings and sculptures within the premises. The central hall of the building houses a bronze statue of the queen. The gardens of the Victoria Memorial Hall are extremely beautiful and a great place to take a stroll, take in the views and just wander. There are also entertaining light and sound shows held periodically. The Victoria Memorial Hall has something to offer to everyone.
