Kolkata’s Victoria Memorial is a grand white marble palace that dates back to 1906. It is situated in the heart of the city and is a major tourist attraction. Originally built as a tribute to Queen Victoria, the Memorial holds a number of stunning historical artifacts and artwork, including sculptures, paintings and porcelain wares. There is also a museum inside the building, which is filled with a number of rare items from the British Raj. Visitors are allowed to walk through the premises, admire the grand architecture and take pictures of the beautiful surrounding lawns. The Memorial is open throughout the week, so visitors can come and explore the history and culture of India any day. There is no entry charge and tourists, as well as local residents, can take advantage of this amazing cultural experience.
