Victoria Memorial is a grand monument located right in front of the Buckingham Palace in London. It was built in 1911-21 in dedication to Queen Victoria, commemorating her death in 1901. The memorial is a symbol of Britain’s 19th-century might, and there is a huge bronze statue of the Queen riding a horse at its centre. The memorial is a magnificent mixture of Queen Anne, Carolean, and French Renaissance architecture. It has four bronze sculptures around the memorial’s perimeter representing Justice, Motherhood, Courage, and Strife, and four allegorical figures at the corners, representing Agriculture, Engineering, Incitement to Science, and Navy Victories. It was opened to public in 1924. To this day, it is one of the most visited sites in London, and is popular amongst photographers for its magnificent sculptures and detailed design.
