Viale Sarca is an avenue in northern Milan, running through the Bicocca area, whose identity was shaped by Pirelli’s industrial operations. The district’s redevelopment has brought the University of Milano-Bicocca, offices and housing into a landscape once dominated by factories. Nearby Pirelli HangarBicocca, a contemporary art space in a former industrial complex, maintains a direct connection to that manufacturing past. Along the avenue, tree-lined stretches, broad traffic lanes and large modern buildings reveal a different Milan from the historic center. Long street perspectives convey the scale of a neighborhood transformed from industrial production to education, business and culture.
