Vestingmolen Bourtange is the historic windmill set inside the restored 18th‑century star fortress of Bourtange. It functions as both a working corn mill and an emblematic feature of the fortified village, visible from the moat and ramparts and reinforcing the site’s image of a living military landscape rather than a static museum.
The mill’s role is closely tied to the fortress: it supplied flour to the garrison and villagers and today illustrates how daily life persisted within defensive works.
