📍 From West Side, United States
The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the United States, connecting Staten Island and Brooklyn in New York City across the Narrows. It is named after the explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, who was the first European to enter the New York Harbor and sail into the upper bay. Possessing a majestic presence, this is a great landmark for photographers and travelers alike. Its two towers stand at 227m and are adorned with sculptures of Verrazzano's ship, the Dauphine. The bridge has a pedestrian/bicycle path and is also home to the world's largest bridge flagpole, standing at 93m and weighing a staggering 8,600lbs! The colorful display of the American flag waving above the Narrows is truly an impressive sight. Visitors can take a tour of the bridge to learn more about its intricacies and history.
