
The Taj Mahal is an iconic, ivory-white marble mausoleum located in Agra, India, on the south bank of the Yamuna River. Built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1632 in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, it is widely considered a masterpiece of Mughal architecture, characterized by its large scale, intricate detailing, gardens, and reflecting pools. Upon visiting the monument, one can appreciate the monument's intricate inlay work, as well as its delicate verses of the Qur'an inscribed in every archway. The Taj Mahal also houses several mosques and a guest house, and its grounds are graced with a beautiful garden, which adds to its serenity. While here, one should not miss the opportunity for a boat ride on the nearby Yamuna River.
