The Varandinha caves are openings in the coastal cliffs beside Praia de Varandinha, on Boa Vista’s southwest coast near Povoação Velha. Wind and Atlantic surf have worn the rock into hollows and archlike shapes above the sandy shore. From inside, the shaded openings frame the bright beach, waves and horizon; from the sand, the caves give this stretch of coastline its distinctive outline.
