Valle de la Luna, or the Moon Valley, is located in the Parque Provincial Ischigualasto (or Valle de la Luna Provincial Park) in the Valle Fértil region of northwestern Argentina. The park is known for its unique rock formation and its turquoise colored lakes, making it a great place to explore and take pictures. Hiking and trekking are popular activities in the park, with many trails leading guests through a variety of landscapes. The views of the desert and immense sandstone formations will never cease to astound. Wildlife in the park is minimal, however, the park's third name, La Valle de las Tinajas, refers to the clay jars that the indigenous peoples of the area used to store water, and which are still used today for recreation. Visitors should take caution if traveling during the heat of the summer.
