Urquhart Castle is one of the most popular historical sites in Scotland. Situated on the banks of Loch Ness in Strone, United Kingdom, the ruins of Urquhart are a reminder of Scotland’s turbulent past. Built in the mid-13th century, the castle was attacked and burned by the English in the 16th century. Visitors to the site will be amazed at the enormous remains of the castle walls, great hall, chapel, and residence. The views of Loch Ness and its surrounding hills are simply breathtaking. Visitors are also able to explore some of the remains of the underground buildings and dungeons, including a tunnel which is believed to have been used as a secret escape route. This atmospheric site is a must-see for anybody interested in history.
