The University of Wrocław’s landmark main building stands beside the Oder River at the northern edge of the Old Town. The institution traces its origins to the Jesuit university founded by Emperor Leopold I in 1702, and its Baroque architecture reflects that imperial and religious heritage. Inside, the Aula Leopoldina is a richly decorated ceremonial hall, with ceiling frescoes, sculptural figures and an elaborate arrangement of columns framing the dais. The Mathematical Tower, formerly used as an astronomical observatory, offers views across the river and the historic city center. From the opposite riverbank, the long ochre-and-cream façade, repeated windows and central tower reveal the building’s scale and its prominent place in Wrocław’s riverside skyline.
