Uluwatu Cliff
📍 From Viewpoint, Indonesia
Uluwatu Cliff, or Bukit Uluwatu, is an idyllic spot perched atop a limestone promontory on the southern coast of Bali, just west of the coastal town of Pecatu. Visible from much of the nearby area, the towering 73-meters-high sea cliff is one of the most dramatic spots in the entire island, offering stunning views of the Indian Ocean. Uluwatu is a popular place for photographing sunsets, silhouettes and stunning surf. It also houses an 11th-century Javanese-style sea temple, where stunning Balinese ceremonies can be witnessed from the upper wrap-around path. The temple grounds are also home to a troop of friendly monkeys, who dine and graze amongst the visitors. Uluwatu is a popular destination, but if you’re keen to miss the tourist crowds, we recommend visiting in the early morning or later afternoon—the cliff looks especially poetic in the glow of dusk or dawn.
