Tugu Negara, or the National Monument is an iconic structure in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Situated in the immense perdana, the monument symbolizes the courage, strength and determination of the people of Malaysia. It was built in honor of those who died during the Malaysian struggle for independence from Britain. The huge bronze of the monument stands markedly against the verdant gardens and is said to represent the spirit of the nation. Obelisks stretch towards the sky, etched with significant words from the parties involved in the struggle. Visitors are able to take in the peaceful atmosphere of the monument, and reflect and remember the heroes that fought for their nation. From one side of the monument, you can even get a glimpse of the skyline of Kuala Lumpur city.
