Tserkov' Il'i Proroka (The Church of Elijah the Prophet) is a historic Russian Orthodox Church situated in the ancient city of Suzdal, which is renowned for its well-preserved monuments of old Russian architecture. The single-domed brick church was built in 1679 and is a fine example of baroque architecture. The walls of the church have a length of 17 meters and a height of 4.5 meters and contain several burial vaults. Inside is the grave of prominent figures from Russian political and religious history. The interior is completely frescoed and painted, making it a feast for the eyes. Outside, there are a variety of ornate wooden gates, towers and walls which make the church a great photo-taking spot. Tserkov' Il'i Proroka provides a great opportunity to learn about Russian religious and cultural history and is a definite must-see during a visit to Suzdal.
