Tre Cime di Lavaredo
📍 Italy
Tre Cime di Lavaredo, known in German as Drei Zinnen, are three sharply defined limestone towers rising north of Misurina on the boundary between Veneto and South Tyrol. Cima Piccola, Cima Grande and Cima Ovest form one of the Dolomites’ most recognizable silhouettes, with pale vertical walls contrasting against broad scree slopes and alpine meadows. The classic northern view near Rifugio Locatelli emphasizes their scale and separation, while side views from Forcella Lavaredo reveal how dramatically the profile changes along the circuit trail. Warm evening light can turn the rock orange and pink, the characteristic Dolomite alpenglow. This landscape also preserves traces of the First World War, when the surrounding ridges formed part of the Italian–Austro-Hungarian front. Seasonal road access from Misurina reaches Rifugio Auronzo; outside the operating period, access is on foot.
