📍 From Parco Naturale Tre Cime, Italy
Tre Cime di Lavaredo, known in German as Drei Zinnen, rise in the Sexten Dolomites along the boundary between South Tyrol and Veneto. Their three sheer towers—Cima Piccola, Cima Grande and Cima Ovest—form one of the Dolomites’ most recognizable silhouettes, especially from the high plateau to the north. Pale dolomite walls catch warm pink and orange tones near sunrise and sunset, while scree slopes, alpine meadows and shifting cloud create strong contrasts of scale and texture. Trails around the massif also pass traces of the First World War, when this mountain landscape lay on the front between Italy and Austria-Hungary. The classic northern perspective emphasizes the near-symmetry and dramatic separation of the three summits.
