Trafalgar Square is a public space in Greater London, England. It is situated in the heart of the City of Westminster and is one of the most popular locations for sightseeing and photography in London. The square was named after the Battle of Trafalgar, a famous naval battle fought by the British Royal Navy against the Spanish in 1805. It is home to a number of important landmarks, including Nelson’s Column, which is 52m tall and can be seen from many parts of London, and four iconic lions which guard the base of the monument. The square is usually filled with tourists who come to admire the magnificent architecture of the area and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. There are a number of celebrated theaters and galleries nearby and the square is also near Leicester Square and Covent Garden, making it the ideal spot to explore all of London's attractions.
