📍 From Drone, Faroe Islands
Trælanípa is a sea cliff on Vágar, near Sandavágur, beside the southern end of Sørvágsvatn, also known as Leitisvatn. Its roughly 142-metre drop helps create one of the Faroe Islands’ most recognizable views: a freshwater lake that seems to hang high above the Atlantic. The lake itself lies only about 30 metres above sea level; the illusion comes from seeing its surface behind the much higher foreground cliffs. Grass-covered slopes, dark rock faces and the lake’s long, narrow shape form distinct visual layers, while the meeting of the cliff edge and open ocean reveals the headland’s scale.
