Tottori Sand Dunes
📍 Japan
The Tottori Sand Dunes, located in Tottori, Japan are a unique wonder worth exploring by both travelers and photographers. The dunes, sometimes nicknamed Japan’s desert, stretch at around 16km long and 2km wide along the coast of Tottori. Around 300 million years in the making, the dunes are made from sand grains that are found in the crystalline streams of Tottori’s prefecture, then carried by the wind to create the rolling hills. It's especially a great place to explore if you want to get away from tourist crowds. One of the most iconic activities at the sand dunes is riding through them on a camel! Other fun activities include sandboarding and paragliding. There is a museum located at the sand dunes that explains the origin of the sand dunes and their native plants and animals. All in all, the Tottori Sand Dunes are a great way to explore another side of Japan!
