The Torrione di Sant’Angelo is a substantial defensive tower incorporated into the old fortifications of Montefiore dell’Aso, a hill town in southern Marche. Its heavy masonry and compact form recall the practical military role once played by the walls, while its position at the edge of the historic center emphasizes the contrast between enclosed medieval streets and the open countryside beyond. In photographs, the tower’s weathered surfaces, simple geometry, and commanding scale work especially well with the layered hills of the Aso valley and the distant Adriatic landscape.
