Torre Serra da Estrela

Torre Serra da Estrela (Serra da Estrela Tower) is situated at the highest mountain of Portugal, the Serra da Estrela, 2000 m high. Built in the 13th century, it served as a watchtower for centuries. It is located near in a quaint village called Loriga, on a plateau of immense beauty. Visitors can choose between several routes to get to the village and tower: a walk of several hours, or a drive accompanied by dizzying turns and breathtaking landscapes. It's ideal to take in the fresh air and nature of the surrounding countryside. Tourists can take advantage of the area's traditional gastronomy - try a Caldo Verde, a local specialty made of shreded kale, potatoes and sausages. Nearby there is also a privately operated hotel and restaurant for guests to enjoy. From the top of the tower one can get panoramic breathtaking views of Loriga and the Serra da Estrela.
