📍 From Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico
Torre Latinoamericana is a 44-story skyscraper at the junction of Eje Central and Calle Madero in Mexico City’s historic center, close to the Palacio de Bellas Artes and Alameda Central. Opened in 1956, its glass-and-aluminum façade and antenna-topped silhouette became symbols of the capital’s mid-century modernization. Built for the insurance company La Latinoamericana, the tower is also known for its earthquake-resistant engineering on the city’s soft former lakebed soils; its survival of the devastating 1985 earthquake reinforced its place in local memory. From the upper observation levels, the colorful dome of Bellas Artes and the trees of Alameda Central stand out against the dense urban grid. At street level, its vertical lines rise above older buildings, making the contrast between the historic center and modern Mexico City especially clear.
