📍 Portugal
The Torre de Belém in Lisbon, Portugal is one of the city's most iconic monuments. Built during the reign of King Manuel I, it was intended both as a fortress to protect the city and as a testament to the glory and wealth of Portuguese seafaring. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, it is a symbol of Portugal's Age of Discovery, as well as a popular tourist attraction. It features beautiful Manueline style architecture and is surrounded by a moat. Inside, visitors can explore two levels of exhibitions that explore the Spanish and Portuguese Empires, including historic documents and maritime artifacts. The top floor of the tower houses a terrace where visitors can enjoy stunning views across the Tagus River and the city.
