The Torre delle Ore rises above Via Fillungo in Lucca’s walled historic centre. At around 50 metres, this medieval clock tower is the city’s tallest, a reminder of the fortified family towers that once dominated its skyline. A public clock was first installed here in 1390, giving the tower a civic role that remains visible in the large dial beneath its belfry. Its narrow shaft stands in striking contrast to the closely packed houses below. Inside, a wooden staircase of 207 steps leads to views across terracotta rooftops, church towers and the hills beyond Lucca, revealing the dense urban fabric enclosed by the Renaissance walls.
