The Torre dell'Orologio is a well known Padova landmark. It is located in the Piazza dei Signori, next to the Basilica dei Frari and the Palazzo della Ragione. Built in 1344, it is a four-storey clock tower with a bell, known to locals as “Il Matt.” The facade of the tower is decorated with Roman numerals and a coat of arms. Inside, visitors can admire intricate wooden machinery, and enjoy stunning views of the Piazza. Visitors can also take a look at the original version of Galileo’s telescope and other Roman artifacts. During festivals and special occasions, visitors can hear the bell ringing, as it has been doing for centuries!
