The tower of San Ildefonso is one of two bell towers framing the church’s façade on Plaza de San Ildefonso, in Seville’s historic centre. Built between 1794 and 1841 to replace an earlier church, the present building combines Neoclassical architecture with more elaborate, Baroque-influenced towers. Warm red and ochre surfaces contrast with the dark bell openings, giving the upper stages a strong graphic presence against the sky. From the square, both towers can be seen together with the central entrance, revealing the façade’s symmetry; the surrounding narrow streets offer more compressed views of their silhouettes above the rooftops.
