Tigray Rock Cliff Church, located in the ancient village of Megab in Ethiopia, is a must-see on any Ethiopian tour. The church was carved out of the solid red sandstone cliffs, and visitors can wander through the caves and admire the beautiful artwork and paintings. Inside the church, visitors will find incredible frescoes and numerous niches that were once used by pilgrims to store candles and other items. The church is believed to have been constructed in the 6th century, making it one of the oldest rock-hewn churches in Ethiopia. Visitors should also make sure to check out the cave of the priest, which was believed to be where the priests lived and conducted rituals. As a result of the secluded location, this church has remained largely untouched and can provide a mesmerizing glimpse into the past.
