Theater of Miskolc, in the north-eastern Hungarian city of Miskolc, is the oldest theatre in the country, founded in 1790. The building contains a beautiful Greco-Roman inspired interior with a large open auditorium and a traditional stage with imperial proscenium. It is renowned for one of the most comprehensive theatrical repertoires in Hungary, hosting a variety of plays and musicals, ballets and cabarets. It is also the home to the orchestral and choir of the National Theater of Miskolc-Lillafüred. The theater is considered to be one of the most impressive Baroque buildings in Hungary and is a popular attraction for locals and tourists alike. It was declared a historical monument in 1972, partly due to its well preserved historical features. The theater is located in the heart of Miskolc, with the main entrance being just off the town's main square.
