Spievajúca fontána (The Singing Fountain) in Košice is a choreographed musical fountain in the city’s main recreational park, famed for its timed water-and-light performances set to recorded music. It’s important as a local landmark and gathering spot: evenings bring crowds to watch water jets, colored illumination and sound blend into brief spectacles that punctuate summer life in Košice.
Originally installed in the mid-20th century and later modernized, the fountain’s significance lies in its technical choreography rather than monumental architecture. Its design centers on a shallow circular basin with concentric rings of nozzles and elevated jets, programmable pumps and an integrated audio system; modern renovations added LED lighting and computerized timing that allow precise synchronization of water movement to melodic arrangements. Shows vary in length and musical style—classical pieces, Slovak folk arrangements and contemporary songs—so each program has a distinct rhythm and visual palette. Unique features include scheduled light-and-music sets that run seasonally (warmer months) and occasional special-program evenings tied to municipal celebrations. The fountain’s lakeside terraces provide informal viewing tiers, making it both an audiovisual attraction and a social focal point in Košice’s park landscape.
