The Great Pyramid of Giza, the largest of the three pyramids on the Giza Plateau, was built as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu around 2580-2560 BC. Photo-travelers should know that the pyramid's original smooth white limestone casing was mostly stripped, revealing the rough internal blocks. For unique shots, aim for the northeast corner at dawn or dusk to capture dramatic shadows and soft lighting. Climb a nearby dune for elevated perspectives, and visit the surrounding structures like the Sphinx and the smaller pyramids for varied compositions. Tripods are allowed, useful for long-exposure night shots when the pyramids are illuminated. Note the strict regulations against climbing the pyramid.
