The First Church of Christ, Scientist, stands on Christian Science Plaza in Boston’s Back Bay. It is the Mother Church of the Christian Science movement founded by Mary Baker Eddy. The smaller original church, completed in 1894, sits beside a much larger domed extension completed in 1906; their contrasting scale makes the movement’s early growth visible in the architecture. Across the plaza’s long reflecting pool, the dome and stone façades appear against the modern Back Bay skyline.
