Tenby Castle overlooks the picturesque town of Tenby in the south-western corner of Wales. Located on a promontory overlooking Carmarthen Bay, the fortress is one of the oldest castles in Wales and is the main attraction of the town. The castle was built in the 12th century by the Welsh prince Robert FitzMartin who governed Pembrokeshire at the time. The castle is built of limestone and is surrounded by an impressive stone perimeter wall. Beyond the wall is the castle's unique Iron Age hillfort. Today, Tenby Castle remains intact, although much of its stonework has been repaired, and two circular towers guard its entrance. Within the castle is a large open courtyard and a Norman chapel. Visitors to the castle, who can also walk around the outside, can enjoy stunning views of Tenby and its surrounding beaches and countryside.
