📍 From Depuis le bateau, Egypt
Philae Temple was once one of Egypt's most important religious sites dedicated to the goddess Isis and the god Osiris. It's located amidst massive granite boulders on the island of Philae in the southernmost point of Aswan, Egypt. Despite being submerged beneath the waters of Lake Nasser, part of the temple complex was merged onto a nearby island and it's still accessible to visitors to this day. While the structures of Philae Temple are a wondrous sight, it's the art and symbols that truly draw historians and travelers. From a boat, try to get a glimpse of the famous facade of the Temple of Hathor, a Grecian-style building with pillars and an intricately carved stone inner sanctum.
