The Tempio Canoviano is Possagno’s neoclassical parish church, dedicated to the Holy Trinity and set on a hillside above the village where sculptor Antonio Canova was born. Conceived by Canova, it combines an eight-column Doric portico modeled on the Parthenon with a domed rotunda inspired by Rome’s Pantheon, bringing Greek and Roman architectural forms into a Christian place of worship. Construction began in 1819; Canova died before it was completed, and his tomb is inside. The broad approach and stone steps give the façade a monumental presence, while the triangular pediment and rounded dome form a distinctive silhouette against the wooded foothills of Monte Grappa. From the front, the repeated columns and strong symmetry make the building’s classical references especially clear.
